Qualified all four years at the state meet in cross country. All conference champ Jr and Sr year in wrestling. Won 3rd place at state Jr year and state champ Sr year in wrestling. 3.57 gpa, National Honor Society, Gold recipient H.G. Bacon award, MHSAA Scholar athlete award recipient. Jerry McCormick's athletic career zoomed to life following his graduation from Mason County Eastern in 1964. McCormick was a three-sport athlete for the Cardinals in track, baseball and basketball. Leanna (Wolf) Geers shined brightly on the track and the cross country courses for Mason County Central and Ferris State University. Geers graduated from MCC in 2002 and owned four school records (400-meter, 800, 3,200 relay and 1,600 relay) with multiple West Michigan Conference championships in the 400 and 800 runs with the 1,600 and 3,200 relays. The 1986 Mason County Central Boys Track and Field Team won the MHSAA Class C state championship, defeating Detroit St. Martin dePorres by two points in the state meet. Mike Benedict ran to the 1981 Class B state cross country championship in his senior year at Ludington High School. It was set up by a 19th place finish the year before.
