Susan (MacDonald) Monaghan has the distinction of being the first outstanding girls distance runner in the county, having owned records at Ludington High in the 880-yard, mile, and two-mile races. Chadd Holmes is one of only three Ludington High School basketball players to earn first-team all-state honors twice. He did it in 1994 when he averaged 18.9 points a game and again in 1995 when he averaged 22.4 points per game for the 22-4 Orioles. Lee Edmundson, as a high school sophomore in 1964, shot an 80 in the Class B state golf tournament, helping Ludington High to a share of second place, three strokes behind co-champions Kalamazoo University High and Whitehall. Charles Dennis was a two-time state mile champion for Ludington High in 1931 and 1932. In both years, his coach, Mitch Read, entered him in the University of Chicago National Interscholastic Track and Field Championships, which drew elite athletes from all over the United States. Howard Jensen coached Ludington High's boys tennis teams for 29 years during which the Orioles won 17 conference and 14 state regional championships.
