Duane Ingraham Sr. coached Mason County Central's boys basketball team to the Class C state tournament in 1966. Ingraham had two coaching stints with the Spartans, in the 1960s and in the 1980s, and he guided the teams to four district championships, a regional title and four West Michigan Conference titles. Leanna (Wolf) Geers shined brightly on the track and the cross country courses for Mason County Central and Ferris State University. The 1986 Mason County Central Boys Track and Field Team won the MHSAA Class C state championship, defeating Detroit St. Martin dePorres by two points in the state meet. She earned four letters each in basketball and track and field while also earning three letters in volleyball. Greg Melchert was an outstanding baseball and football player as well as wrestler at Mason County Central, and he found his greatest success in baseball.
