Melissa (Thompson) Gross - MCSHOF Inductee - 2014

Melissa (Thompson) Gross ran her way into what's seemingly a permanent place in the Ludington High record books. While an oriole, she set a school record in the 1,600-meter run and was a member of the school-record setting 1,600-meter relay team. She was also a state champion miler in 1982 while running to third in 1983 in the 800-meter run and third in 1981 in the 1,600-meter run. She also was a member of a state runner-up and third place 1,600-meter relay team. She was an All-State honorable mention basketball player, too, in 1981. She wrapped her schooling at Ludington as the top female athlete of the year in 1983. It all helped to get her a full scholarship to the University of Michigan where she was a co-captain of the cross country teams from 1983 to 1986 and she also participated in indoor and outdoor track. She won all-Big Ten academic honors in 1988.
