JocQuin Slappey's journey in the Special Olympics is a testament to resilience, leadership, and an unwavering positive spirit. Despite facing adversities, including personal losses, JocQuin has maintained a respect for life and the games he plays.  On the basketball court, his selflessness shines bright.  He consistently chooses teamwork over personal glory, ensuring everyone is involved down to the last player.  JocQuin uplifts his teammates with constant encouragement and positivity.  His commitment to the team was never more evident than during his first year of poly-hockey when, despite not making the active roster due to being a new athlete, he embraced the role of equipment manager with enthusiasm, supporting his team in any capacity.  JocQuin's perseverance, both in sports and in life, is marked by an upbeat attitude, never showing signs of quitting regardless of the challenge at hand. Outside of Special Olympics, JocQuin lives independently in the Ludington community and is a valued employee of a local business. In addition to his commitment to fitness and athletic competition, he participates in a writing group and writes original poetry as well as enjoying dance and performing music.
