Clay Shoup - High School Athlete Honorees - 2024
Clay earned 15 varsity letters in basketball, earning All-State honors two years, while serving as team captain and breaking school records for most points in a single game with 55 and most 3-point shots in a single game with 10. A four-year, All-West Michigan D League basketball player, Clay earned All-Area honors, was Academic All-State two, Senior Male Athlete, and received the Joie Giammalva Christian Athlete Award.
Clay is third on the Mason County all-time season basketball scoring list and has the most (5) 40+ point games in the County. Clay ran cross country at State three times, earned All-West Michigan D League conference honors, was Team Captain, Academic All-State, and won the Ryan Shay Memorial Scholarship. The baseball team won the District Championship Clay’s freshman year, and he was All-West Michigan D League, All-District as a shortstop, and Team Captain. In track and field, he was All-West Michigan D League and Team Captain.
Clay holds a 4.0 GPA, was Class Valedictorian, National Honor Society President, an MHSAA Scholar Athlete and Questbridge Finalist, Top Social Studies Student his senior year, Top Science Student his junior year, Student Council Mayor, Varsity Club Vice President, Homecoming King, and a 4H member. He won the West Michigan D-League AAA Award, the Jackson Scholarship, a Top Award Recipient, the West Shore Bank Making a Difference Scholarship, the MEA Region 13B Academic Award, semi-finalist for the Elks National Most Valuable Student, and Daughters of the Revolution Good Citizen Award.
Clay will attend Albion College to study history and secondary education and will play basketball on scholarship.
