Nyah Tyron - High School Athlete Honorees - 2021
Nyah is the daughter of John and Nicole Tyron, and is a graduate of Mason County Central. She was a 11-time Spartan Varsity Letter winner during her 4 years of high school. Earning varsity recognition of four years in Basketball. Three years in both Track & Field, and Volleyball. She also was a varsity member of the Central Cross-Country team.
As a 4-year member of the MCC Varsity Girls Basketball team, Nyan was the recipient of the Of the Defensive Player award in 2018 & 2021, member of the District BB Championship team of 2018, Hustle Award in 2019, MVP Award in 2020, Team Captain 2021, and Honorable Mention All-Conference in 2020 and 2021.
She was a valued member of the Spartan girls Volleyball team; HOWEVER, it was in track and cross country where her athletic abilities reached their highest levels. Nyah was Rookie of the Year in track in 2018. Conference and regional champion in the 1600 meter in the same year, and finished 4th in the Michigan High School State Meet as a freshman in this event. In the 300-meter hurdles she finished 7th. 2019 was another banner year for her, being conference champ in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, breaking the conference meet record in the 300 Meter Hurdle event, and the 1600-meter run. She was also regional state champion in the 300-meter hurdles, and 1600-meter run. Nyah also placed 3rd in the Michigan State meet in the 300-meter hurdles, and 4th in the 100-meter hurdles. AND, State Runner-Up in the 1600 Meter run in 2016.
2021 was the best year ever for her in track and field caping an amazing year of championships by winning the Michigan High School Athletic Association 100- and 300-meter Hurdles just last weekend. Nyah will be representing the State of Michigan in a National Track Meet on June 12, running these hurdle events. According to her Coach Mr. Nelson “Nyah has been a team leader. She is willing to put personal accolades aside to do what is best for her team. Nyah is a fierce competitor, and when she does lose a race, she comes back to practice to work even harder to improve.”
In addition to her athletic skills, Nyah was the recipient of the HG Bacon Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards for academic achievement during her high school career, and was All Conference Scholar-Athlete for Volleyball, Basketball, and Track Field. She is a member of the National Honor Society 2018 – 2021 and realized a 3.6 GPA. She is active at St. John Cantius Church, Mason County Blood drive, and Highway Clean up. She will be continuing her education at Ferris State University.
