Gymnastics Teams 1975-1979 Ludington High School - MCSHOF Inductee - 2010

When Ludington High started its five-year state championship run in gymnastics, it had been competing in the sport for only two years. The first state title came in 1975 and Martha Garrett was the lone all-stater on the team. She was second in floor exercise, third on the uneven parallel bars, fourth in vaulting and tumbling and third in the all-around competiton as the team went 19-0 in duals. In 1976, the team was 14-0 and at state Melanie Wroble was the champion on the trampoline and Garrett was third on bars and fourth in vaulting. In 1977, the team again went 14-0 in duals and dominated, with Deb Hineline, Martha Garrett, Kerri Mack, and Kendra Brooks earning all-state honors. In 1978, the Orioles were 14-0 in duals and Hineline, Garrett and Brooks were all-staters. Hineline finished first on bars, vault and floor exercise and earned the state all-around title. In 1979, the team was 17-0 in duals and tied Class A North Farmington for first place in the state finals. Kristy Beadle and Dayna Samuelson were all-staters and Pam Jabrocki placed third on beam and floor and fourth on vault. During the team's five-year run, it won 78 straight dual competitons, six Seaway Conference championship meets, five state regional titles and five state finals meets for a total of 91 straight victories. Counting the 14 straight dual meets it won in 1980, the Orioles were victorious on 111 consecutive competitions, all under coach Pat Jensen.
