Stefanie Morong - High School Athlete Honorees - 2007
A four-time all-conference player in softball, Stefanie Morong holds every pitching record in Central’s record book. She was also a two-time all-area selection and was all-league in basketball in 2005 and all-league, all-area and an all-state honorable mention in volleyball in 2007. In volleyball, Morong played the libero, the newly designated back-row position that is intended to be used as a ball-control specialist. “Stefanie is very unselfish,” Central volleyball coach Scott Stone said of Morong. “(Grand Rapids) South Christian kept the ball away from her in the state finals.” In softball, Morong is among the state’s all-time leaders in victories and strikeouts in a season and career and for single-season and career earned run average. “Stefanie and Jamie are our leaders,” Central softball coach Christy Christmas said of the two scholar athletes. “She’s not only a great pitcher, but she’s one of our best hitters and one of our best fielders.” With a 3.37 grade point average, Morong is a member of the National Honor Society. Stefanie plans to attend Lansing Community College and will play softball.
